That is only on rooted roms and ones using MicroG. GrapheneOS is generally not rooted and uses Google Play Services by sandboxing it. I am using RCS on my Pixel 7 running GrapheneOS.

It does work on GrapheneOS, but you need to have Google Play Services installed.
Every android that has Google Play services has RCS, they just need Google Messages to use it.
Yep, and he soon after started praising musk and Twitter, calling it “freedom software” lol. Him leaving was what drew my attention, I like the way it’s heading so far.
As far as I understand, the protocol and client apps are completely open souce. I do not believe the Bluesky software is open source, so you could not host an instance the same way you would with Mastodon. I could be missing something or not underatanding, but that’s what it seems to me.
A great custom skin, and far better defaults for both privacy and speed, based on Betterfox.
The fact that a fork that simply has a better UI and default settings is gaining so much popularity shows how bad Mozilla is fumbling their product.
Bluesky is built on an open source ActivityPub alternative called “AT Protocol”. However, Bluesky itself is not open source* and afaik does not yet federate with any other software. The company is a “public benefit corporation”.
From my understanding, Bluesky has good moderation, to the point where Jack Dorsey (the Twitter founder) condemned it and withdrew from the project. That’s a big plus in my book.
When you try do sign up on the Mastodon app it defaults to and recommends mastodon.social, which does nothing of this sort. The average user will just keep this default and be fine.
I do really wish mastodon had normal quote replies. I believe they decided not include it for reasons related to harassment or bullying. I don’t really get it since you can do practically the same thing but just linking to the post in yours. The mastodon UI even makes it look almost the same as a quote reply.
On CalyxOS my double press opens the Google Camera. I think because I disabled the default camera app.
That’s some big slippery slope fallacy. Privacy respecting AI was a highly requested feature, whether you wanted it or not.
Them adding an AI mail assistant that is completely private has nothing to do with them eventually not protecting user privacy. These things have nothing to do with each other.
AI is not inherently a privacy invading tool, its just that the majority of services offering it are free, hence them profiting off data.
I’ve been using Protonmail as my primary address for a few years now. I’m yet to have a single spam email make it to my inbox. In comparison, I use my gmail less and I’ve had a few blatant crypto scams make it to my inbox.
I’m not saying for certain that it’s better than Gmail’s, but that’s my experience so far.
Yep, the browser extensions also have an encrypted cache, although it is less consistent imo. I’ve had times where my server was down and the extension just completely logged out then couldn’t authenticate so I couldn’t access the cache.
KDE has experimental HDR support already
I’m aware, I assumed being able to install sandboxed Google services would allow Google Wallet to pass, unlike on CalyxOS, but I might be wrong.
Oh interesting, I didn’t know that’s how GrapheneOS handles Google services. I’d love to have working NFC pay and RCS, so I’m going to have to take a look at it. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting. Do you have Google services installed? I use MicroG, which afaik has no RCS support.
I love running a custom ROM, but I’m concerned RCS is going to become a deal break for me :(
I love that text messaging will finally not be complete shit between iOS and Android, but RCS is such a shitty locked down protocol.
Exactly. Browser’s are insanely fucking complex, the codebases of Firefox and Chromium are MASSIVE. There is zero chance Mozilla could ever make enough money simply off of donations.
Every modern android phone I’ve used comes with Google Messages by defualt.
