Sometimes I feel it’s a miracle I get anything done at all but then usually the end result is better than what I’d originally envisioned so it kinda balances out.

Don’t get me wrong - both my work laptop and my gaming PC run Linux. But my phone is still an iPhone and if I ever have need for a personal laptop again, it’s gonna be a Macbook Air again.

There’s a saying in my language that roughly translates to “the morning is wiser than the evening” in English. I believe in English it’s common to say “sleep on it” for tough decisions.

I often wake up and come up with a solution to my toughest problems from the previous day. My REM sleep brain is already keeping me gainfully employed.

The replacement you’re talking about is called [CAMM](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAMM_(memory_module\)) and personally I’m excited about it. Not only does it support faster speeds than SO-DIMM, it takes up less physical space. And I believe you can’t even put LPDDR on a SODIMM, so CAMM should also use less power?

Linux is a bit heavy for embedded stuff.

As for older Macs - sure, I know someone who replaced 8 gigs with 16 on either an Air or Pro model that had 16 available as an option but was shipped with 8. It’s just something you do when you have way too many Mac boards lying around at work and your bosses say you can’t get a new work laptop.

The entire point of the “new” Settings app is to be dumbed down. To include all the settings from the control panel would go against the entire point of the Settings app.

VSCode is another front in that battle. Things are going slowly, but they’re winning.

They replaced Atom with VSCode, but some of the Atom devs are now working on Zed, which finally has Linux support. Or for a paid alternative, we have the Jetbrains suite, which can be excellent if that’s your thing.

For Github, we still have Gitlab as an alternative, but once that goes, we have Gitea or Forgejo to move to.

The thing is that many developers are a vengeful bunch who hate big corps with their enshittification fetishes and love open source solutions. Microsoft has to tread really carefully here.

Ironically, Apple forcing Safari on iPhones is the single greatest thing standing between Chromium and total market domination.
